A Palestinian was shot dead in an alleged stabbing attack in East Jerusalem on Saturday, according to Israeli police.

Police spokesperson Luba al-Samri in a statement the Palestinian stabbed and lightly injured two Israelis in Jerusalem’s Old City.

Israeli police forces opened fire on the assailant and he was “likely dead”, the spokesperson said.

Israeli authorities say at least 47 Israelis have been killed by Palestinians over the same period.
