Turkey develops local laser-guided missile system

April 3, 2017 at 2:33 pm

A new laser-guided missile called L-UMTAS, similar to a long range anti-tank missile, has successfully been developed by the Turkish defence firm, Roketsan, Turkey’s Anadolu agency reported on Sunday

The company has also successfully completed tests to integrate the system with the Turkish combat helicopter, Atak.

Turkish Defence Minister, Fikri Isik, told the agency during the missile test that, “Turkey is gradually completing the planned projects in the field of local defence using national expertise.”

Thanks to the new missiles, the power of the Turkish air force has been enhanced

Air-to-surface and ground-to-ground L-UMTAS missiles can be used to destroy armored vehicles within a radius of 8 kilometers (5 miles). The laser guidance system of the missile means the rocket can also be used at night.
