A German court has ruled that a Tunisian suspect in the 2015 terror attack on the Bardo museum in Tunis will be extradited to Tunisia. Tunisia has named 36-year-old Haykel as a suspect and issued an arrest warrant in June 2016.

Haykel had applied for asylum in Germany on the grounds that not only was he innocent but that he would be tortured and would face the death penalty in Tunisia, but this was rejected and instead conditions set for his deportation.

The court ruled that the Tunisia must assure the German government that he won’t face ill treatment or the death penalty upon his return and that a lawyer and German consular staff will have access to him in detention.
