In apparently criticism of US strikes in Syria today, Iraq’s foreign ministry said “hasty measures could impact negatively anti-terror efforts”.

The US is actively backing the Iraqi government’s efforts to quash Daesh’s last remaining stronghold in Iraq, the northern city of Mosul.

US President Donald Trump today ordered strikes against a Syrian air base where he believes a deadly chemical weapon attack was launched earlier this week killing nearly 100 people, the majority children.

The strikes have been verbally supported by the UK, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and France.

Speaking at the UN Security Council today, French UN Ambassador Francois Delattre said Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad’s goal is “annihilation, quite simply, of all those who resist him, whatever the price might be.”

He added that the US strikes were legitimate as it had become “essential to deter” Al-Assad.
