“US aggression” on Syria is a sign of the Syrian government’s victory in political and military spheres, the Tehran-based Tasnim News Agency reported on Sunday, quoting the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), Ali Shamkhani. He added that the attack aimed at boosting the terrorist groups’ morale.

In a telephone conversation on Sunday with his Syrian counterpart, Ali Mamlouk, Shamkhani stressed on Iran’s continuous support to the Syrian people and government and its intent to “totally” eliminate the foreign-backed terrorist groups and providing widespread security.

“While the political and military trends in the world are in the direction of elimination of the terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq, taking measures similar to the US missile attacks on Syria are fully biased and in line with boosting the morale and military power of the terrorism front,” he said, as quoted by Iran’s Fars News Agency.

The security official underlined the need for setting up a fact-finding committee to find out about the perpetrators of the chemical attack on the Syrian civilians in Idlib.

On his part, Major General Mamlouk praised the Islamic Republic’s support to Syria, stressing that the Syrian people and government will remain steadfast in the face of terrorist groups and their supporters.

Last Friday, the US military attacked the Syrian government’s Shayrat Airfield near Homs with 59 tomahawk missiles, following allegations that the airfield had launched a chemical attack on the rebel-held area in Idlib.

Syria has been facing a civil war that erupted in March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh, currently controlling parts of it.
