Hamas condemns Egypt church bombings

Hamas yesterday condemned the church bombings in Egypt, describing them as a “crime”.

“Hamas strongly condemns the heinous crimes against churches and places of worship in Egypt, which targeted unarmed civilians and led to the death and injury of dozens,” Hamas spokesman, Fawzi Barhoum, said in an official statement.

“Hamas wishes safety, security, stability and prosperity for Egypt and its people,” Barhoum added.

Two bombings exploded at two Egyptian churches yesterday killing at least 44 people and wounding over 100, according to officials. Daesh claimed responsibility for the attacks.

According to the Egyptian health ministry, the first explosion which took place in Egypt’s northern province of Tanta caused the death of 30 people and left over 70 wounded. The second bomb attack at St. Mark’s Cathedral in Egypt’s port city of Alexandria killed 11 people and injured an additional 66.
