April 11, 2017 at 1:55 pm

Daesh yesterday claimed responsibility for a rocket that was fired from Egypt’s Sinai into southern Israel, according to a statement published on the group’s news agency Amaq.

The group added in the statement that its fighters fired a Grad rocket into Jewish settlements in the Eshkol region in southern Israel.

Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee said on his Twitter account that a rocket launched from Sinai hit the Eshkol region in southern Israel, noting that there were no injuries.

Adraee also said that Israeli military forces were searching the area following the attack.

Before the rocket hit Eshkol, rocket alert sirens sounded in the area.

This was not the first time that Daesh had claimed responsibility for rockets fired into Israel. In February, the group announced it was behind the launching off our Grad-type rockets fired on Eilat, located also in southern Israel. The attack did not result in deaths or injuries.

Daesh operates in Sinai under the name Wilayat Sinai (Sinai Province).
