There are differences between Russia and Turkey over Syria, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said yesterday.

Answering a journalist’s question regarding whether there are any differences in the approaches adopted by Moscow and Ankara after their evaluation of US moves towards reaching a settlement to the crisis in Syria, he said “no doubt, there have to be differences”.

Peskov said President Vladimir Putin’s current agenda does not include any scheduled meetings with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, noting that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has recently contacted his Turkish counterpart.

Erdogan has previously called on Russia to abandon its support for Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad and cooperate with the US in Syria.

For his part, Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, said earlier that Russia is not taking the necessary action following the violation of the truce in Syria.

Peskov also said that Putin’s agenda does not include a meeting with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson who arrived in Moscow yesterday.

Putin will so not be meeting Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al-Moallem and Iranian Mohammad Javad Zarif who will visit Moscow on Friday.
