White House press secretary Sean Spicer appeared on CNN yesterday evening to apologise for a claim he made that Hitler did not use chemical weapons during WWII, which provoked outrage on social media.
During his appearance Spicer said he did not want his comments about Hitler to distract from US President Donald Trump’s attempts “to destabilise the region”.

“I came out to make sure we stay focused on what the president is doing and his decisive action. I needed to make sure that I clarified, and not was in any shape or form any more of a distraction from the president’s decisive action in Syria and the attempts that he is making to destabilise the region and root out ISIS [Daesh] out of Syria.”
Later Spicer clarified his remarks and reiterated that the US wants to “bring stability” to the region.
