Abdellah Benkirane, Secretary-general of Morocco’s Justice and Development Party (JDP) has stressed that his party will not back down from what he described as “the course of reform”.

Benkirane, a former prime minister, met with parliamentarians from the Justice and Development Party (JDP) on Thursday at the party’s headquarters in Rabat, according to the party’s website.

“All we do is for the country, the homeland, the state and the regime” Benkirane said.

MP Amina Ma’aEeinin of JDP who attended the meeting said, in a post on Facebook, that Benkirane has said that the Justice and Development party will vote with the government.

Ma’aEeinin remarks come as indirect response to reports that Benkirane has rejected a request by Prime Minister, Saad Eddin Othmani to hold a meeting for the party’s general secretariat to issue a statement announcing the party’s support for the new government.

Benkirane resigned on Wednesday from the Parliament after failing to form a government for six months, but was later unable.
