Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani filed the papers on Friday for him to stand for election for a second term in office, Iran news agency has reported. The president completed the application at the Election Commission in Tehran’s interior ministry for the election next month.

The deadline is today and the application procedure has been open since Tuesday. Rouhani won the 11th Iranian presidential term by more than 18.5 million votes in August 2013.
The presidential election is set for 19 May and coincides with polls for municipal, village and supplementary parliamentarian posts in a number of Iranian cities.
