Israel prevents lawyers from visiting Barghouthi

Senior Fatah official, Marwan Barghouthi, who is currently on hunger strike has been banned from access to lawyers, Israel Prison Service told the legal unit of the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club (PPC) yesterday.

The decision is in line with the IPS’ policy not to allow hunger striking prisoners visits and to place them in solitary confinement, the authority said.

In a statement, the PPC said the information was given to its lawyer Jawad Polis after he applied to visit Barghouthi and Naser Owis, who is also in solitary confinement.

Barghouthi will however be allowed access to his lawyers if he is due in court the following the morning, the PPC was told.
