The new Moroccan government’s programme does not reflect the needs of the country’s Berber population, a leading Berber activist said yesterday.

Speaking to Quds Press, Ahmed Aldagharni said: “The government headed by Saadeddine Othmani is a functional government in which the Justice and Development Party (JDP) represents about 25 per cent in addition to a number of other parties, making it a majority government, not Othmani’s government.”

Aldagharni described the government’s programme as “loose” and said it offered nothing new.

The activist had submitted a request to establish the Amazigh Democratic Party however he was not given permission to.

Morocco’s cabinet won a vote of confidence in parliament on Wednesday after the country went more than six months without a government, causing delays to public spending and reforms.
