During an event marking Arab Information Day for audio media held in Baghdad yesterday, the Iraqi government called for propaganda support against Daesh, Anadolu reported.

Mehdi Al-Allaq, a representative of Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi, said: “The terrorist organisations recognised the importance of mass media for spreading their politics in order to gain more recruits.”

He stressed on the importance of using information and the media to “counter terror…because they promote violence and spread cruelty.”

Al-Allaq said that his country has “unprecedented” international support in its multifaceted war against terror, including through propaganda and informational. He stressed that Daesh uses different mass media platforms to promote what he described as fake video clips about “false victories.”

Meanwhile, Arab League representative Fawzi Al-Fadeel called during the same gathering for “re-evaluating the Arab media discourse and adopting more open and objective media policies that keep up with the latest developments and respect social values.”

He stressed that the Arab media “must respect differences and reinforce a culture of tolerance.”
