Syrian regime forces families of Palestinian detainees to sign false death certificates

May 3, 2017 at 11:13 am

A number of relatives of Palestinian torture victims who died in the Syrian regime’s prisons told the Action Group for the Palestinians in Syria that the Syrian security agencies have forced them to sign false death certificates issued by Tishreen Military Hospital, claiming that their relatives have died as a result of heart attack.

The wife of one of the Palestinian victims told the Group that after long suffering and efforts to find out the fate of her husband who was imprisoned by the Syrian regime she received a false death certificate claiming her husband had died of a heart attack and was ordered not to ask about him again.

Huda (not her real name) told the Group’s reporter that “after receiving the death certificate, she was informed by a former detainee that her husband was spotted alive”.

Activists said a number of the victims’ families who had received similar certificates have also reported learning from former detainees that their relatives were alive in the Syrian security agencies prisons or in Sednaya Military Prison after the date of handing them the forged papers.
