Egyptian President Al-Sisi arrived in the UAE on Wednesday for a two-day visit where he was welcomed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Bin Zayd and Al-Sisi discussed cooperation in the fight against terrorism, the crisis in Yemen, Syria and in Libya and the importance of providing security for the Libyan people.

The Libya Herald reports that on the same visit Al-Sisi may meet with Libyan National Army Chief Khalifa Haftar and Chairman of the Presidential Council of Libya Faiez Serraj, who are also in Abu Dhabi.

Al-Sisi has put pressure on Haftar to step up negotiations with the west of the country.

Bin Zayd praised Al-Sisi for remaining a beacon of stability in the region, joining other Western leaders who have praised the military strongman for his role in the fight against terrorism.

Tens of thousands of political prisoners are tortured behind bars on a daily basis in Egypt. As UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al-Hussein said on Monday, heavy-handed security measures by Egypt foster radicalisation rather than curb it.
