Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has no jurisdiction to talk on behalf of Palestinian people and the statements he made in America do not represent them, a Hamas spokesperson has said.

In a tweet published following Abbas’ meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington yesterday, Sami Abu Zuhri said: “We are against Abbas’ statements in which he claimed that all the issues related to the ‘final solution’ can be solved because these are national rights for all Palestinians and no one has the right to abandon them.”

No one authorised Mahmoud Abbas to represent the Palestinian people and none of his positions represent our positions.

According to reports, following a meeting with Trump Abbas said: “Signing a peace treaty based on the two-state solution will help in the fight against terrorism… I see an opportunity for peace as a result of Trump’s determination to continue those efforts.”

“The strategic choice for the Palestinians is to achieve peace based on a two-state solution on the basis of the 1967 borders,” he added, stressing: “The two sides will be able to solve the problem of refugees and prisoners.” “The Palestinians recognise the State of Israel and the time has come for Israel to stop occupying the Palestinian people and their territories.”
