Boris Johnson to revise UK travel warnings to Tunisia

During his meeting with his Tunisian counterpart Khemaies Jhinaoui, Britain’s most senior diplomat emphasised the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation and exploiting the great opportunities offered in the economic and financial fields.

According to a statement released yesterday by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Johnson stressed the UK’s desire to broaden the base of British investments in Tunisia and diversify the fields to encompass new niches such as training, education, communication technologies and finance.

Johnson took the opportunity to welcome the initiative of President Beji Caid Essebsi, for the country’s part in tackling the crisis in Libya and for pushing for a comprehensive political settlement in Libya alongside Algeria and Egypt.

“Any initiative to find a solution to the Libyan crisis must be supported,” the FCO said.

During the meeting, Jhinaoui asked British authorities to reinforce their investments in Tunisia and the implementation of the commitments made by the UK at the International Conference on Investment in Tunisia 2020.
