US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Army General Joseph Dunford is due to meet with the Israeli Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Gadi Eisenkot and Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman today, Israeli media revealed.
Israeli Ynet News said that the officials were to discuss several issues including “Russia, with particular emphasis on chemical weapons that remain in the arsenal of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad’s army.”
The news website also said that the officials would likely discuss “other matters including developments in the Sinai and the attempts to transfer advanced weapons to Hezbollah.”
Dunford and Eisenkot have met four times, but this is the US official’s first visit to Israel since the inauguration of Trump’s administration.
