Al-Araji did not disclose who arrested them, but some believe the arrest warrant is related to their political activity in leading popular demonstrations demanding reforms. The freed activists are university students who have been holding weekly demonstrations in Tahrir Square, central Baghdad, for months against widespread corruption in the country.
