Algeria sets one hour for Ramadan prayers

May 17, 2017 at 10:31 am

The Algerian Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments has issued a directive for mosque imams, setting one hour as the duration to perform the nightly Ramadan prayers during the holy month of Ramadan, a ministry official said.

The Secretary-General of Algeria’s Religious Affairs Association, Jaloul Hajimi told Anadolu agency yesterday that the directive is a very normal procedure announced by the ministry every year, pointing out that “limiting the prayer time to one hour does not mean speeding up prayer, however it aims to ease the praying time for the worshipers by not prolonging it.”

Algeria has more than 15,000 mosques, in addition to 5,000 that are in the process of completion.
