Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir yesterday appointed former Secretary-General of the Popular Congress Party, Ibrahim Al-Sanousi, as his aide, the Sudanese News Agency (SUNA) reported.

Last week, Sudanese Prime Minister, Bakri Hassan Saleh, announced the names of the cabinet members set out in the national dialogue recommendations which were boycotted by a majority of the opposition factions.

The Popular Congress was the only opposition party to participate in the dialogue.

The party has secured the ministries of industry and international cooperation, as well as the post of Minister of State at the Ministry of Communications.

The government formation was delayed due to differences between the National Congress party and the People’s Congress party over the implementation of the national dialogue recommendations.

The Popular Congress demanded amendments to the constitution, safeguarding public freedoms and curbing the security and intelligence apparatus’ powers.
