Oman: Australian missing in Yemen found with help of tribesmen

Omani authorities said today that an Australian citizen missing in Yemen had been located after mediation with local tribes and that he had been transferred to Oman before returning home.

The man, who was not named, had been found with the help of local tribesmen, the Omani foreign ministry said, according to a statement carried on state news agency ONA.

Oman said it had been making efforts to find him on behalf of the Australian government. It gave no further details.

Yemen has been locked in a bitter battle between Shia Houthi fighters who have taken control of the capital Sana’a with the support of groups loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh. The Saudi-backed government of President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi has been forced to relocate to the southern capital of Aden while a Saudi-led coalition helps his supporters regain control of  the territory.
