The Saudi-led coalition yesterday condemned the attempt by the Houthis to assassinate UN envoy to Yemen, Ismail Cheikh Ould Ahmed, when he arrived in Sanaa International Airport on Monday, the Saudi news agency reported.

In a statement, the coalition said: “The leadership of the coalition in support of legitimacy in Yemen strongly condemns and deplores the assassination attempt of the UN Envoy to Yemen Ismail Cheikh Ould Ahmed in Sana’a on Monday.”

Meanwhile, the coalition’s leadership blamed the Houthis and their allies, the militias of the ousted President [Ali Abdullah Saleh] for carrying out such tyrannical, cowardly and irresponsible acts.”

The coalition leadership said the assassination attempt aimed to undermine UN efforts to find a peaceful solution for the crisis in the country.
