The Algerian president, Abdelaziz Bouteflika dismissed Tourism and Craft Minister, Massoud Benagoun, Sunday just three days after he was appointed to the post.

Algeria’s APS news agency reported a statement by the presidency as saying that “in accordance with the provisions of Article 93 of the Constitution and at the suggestion of Prime Minister, Abdel Meguid Tabboun, the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika today terminated the duties of Tourism and Craft Minister Massoud Benagoun”. The statement did not give further details on the reasons for the sudden dismissal.

Meanwhile, An-Nahar newspaper which is close to the presidency said the sacked minister held a fake university diploma and a criminal record, with several convictions, but did not specify for what offences.

The minister, who was appointed as the successor to AbdelWahab Nuri is the youngest member in the new government (38 years). He is a member of the Popular Algerian Movement and leads a student organization at the university.

Last Thursday, the Algerian presidency announced a cabinet reshuffle in which 15 ministers left office, while 14 others, including 12 technocrats, entered the government for the first time, while 12 members of former Prime Minister, Abdelmalek Sellal’s team held their posts.

The change followed the resignation of former Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal, who was replaced by Minister of Housing, Abdelmajid Tebboune.
