The Syrian opposition repulsed an attack by regime forces on Sunday, pushing the attackers out of the Makhoul area in Al-Badia Al-Shamiyeh, it has been reported.

Local sources told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that the opposition destroyed a tank and killed and wounded a number of the attackers during the fight. Al-Badia is adjacent to Al-Qalamoun in the countryside to the east of Homs.

The attack by the Syrian regime on this area followed its taking control recently of the Scientific Research Site and its surrounding areas after a firefight at the Zaza Crossing and Byout Sheeb on the Damascus-Baghdad Highway close to the Jordan border.

On Saturday, the Syrian regime forces took control of Al-Alyaniyeh in Al-Badia and crawled towards the phosphate mines near Homs after the withdrawal of Daesh.

The regime forces, supported by foreign militias and Russian troops, have been trying to extend their control over more areas in Al-Badia and eastern Qalamoun at the expense of the Syrian Opposition, as Daesh cedes ground in the area.
