The Sudanese armed forces have confiscated Egyptian weapons and tanks from rebels who attacked the states of North and East Darfur and is willing to parade them for people to see, a senior Sudanese official said.
Sudanese Minister of Culture and Information, Ahmed Bilal Osman, explained that his country is now seeking an explanation on how the rebels obtained the Egyptian armour and weapons.
If the weapons were given to retired Libyan Brigadeir, Khalifa Hafar, or to the South which are both under arms embargo by a United Nations Security Council resolution, then the question is ‘Where did the rebels get these Egyptian weapons?
the minister said.
Osman denied that Egypt had mobilised any troops on the Sudanese border.
On Monday, informed sources said Sudan had confiscated six Egyptian-made armoured vehicles in addition to other weapons from the Darfur region.
