UN envoy prevented military attack on Yemen’s Hudaydah

The UN envoy to Yemen told the Security Council he successfully prevented an attack on the port of Hudaydah, Al Arabiya reported.

Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed told Security Council members yesterday of the dire situation in Yemen, and the success of his endeavour to prevent a Saudi-led coalition attack on the Hudaydah port which is a lifeline for Yemen.

“We have succeeded so far in preventing a military operation in Hudaydah.”

Ould Cheikh warned of the ongoing cholera epidemic which has struck the country with 500 deaths and thousands of patients awaiting medical tests.

This is the second year since the Saudi-led coalition intervened to reinstate President Abd Mansur Rabbuh Hadi to power, and to push back the Houthi group’s military advancements towards southern Yemen.
