Iranian FM heads to Turkey to discuss ‘worrying developments’

Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, arrived in Turkey yesterday where he was to discuss the “worrying developments in the region” with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in reference to the Gulf rift.

“We will also discuss with senior Turkish officials the events in the region, especially Syria,” Zarif told reporters upon his arrival in Ankara.

There are concerning developments in the region for us. We need to have a close exchange of ideas with Turkey regarding these incidents.

Commenting on the deadly attacks that took place in Tehran, Zarif said: “Our condolences to the Iranian people. This attack will further strengthen our people’s stance against terrorism.”

Earlier in the day, Iranian authorities announced that a twin attacks against its parliament and the shrine of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini killed at least 17 people and wounded dozens.

Daesh claimed responsibility for the attacks.
