Sudan is estimated to have 160 million heads of cattle, the Minister of Animal Resources, Bshara Jumaa Aro, revealed yesterday.
In a press conference held on Khartoum, Aro said that 65 per cent are female.
Aro said that his ministry had already approved a strategic plan to construct four new slaughterhouses in order to export meat to international markets after US sanctions are lifted next month.
The minister went on to defend the government’s decision to export female camels following a vote held in parliament on Monday. Legislation to export the animals was passed by a margin of one vote after 94 votes came in in favour of the decision while 93 were against.
