The President of Ethiopia said on Tuesday that his country supports the Palestinian cause and Palestinian rights based on the two-state solution, Anadolu has reported. President Mulatu Teshome made his comment during a meeting with his Palestinian Authority counterpart, Mahmoud Abbas, on the fringe of the 29th African summit held in Addis Ababa. Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn was also in attendance.

An aide of the prime minister told Anadolu that the meeting discussed the latest developments in Palestine as well as mutual relations between the Palestinians and Ethiopia. He added that President Teshome supports the two-state solution in the Middle East through negotiations.

Abbas briefed Teshome on the efforts being exerted to resume negotiations between the PA and Israel.

During his speech at the summit, Abbas announced that he “is ready for a historic peace deal with the Israelis based on the two-state solution.” He called for African leaders to link relations between their countries and Israel to the latter’s obligation to end the occupation of the Palestinian lands occupied in 1967.
