Yemen, India meet to discuss relations

Yemen’s deputy prime minister will be touching down in India for a meeting with government officials, reported Suryaa.

Abdulmalik Abduljalil Al-Mekhlafi’s official visit is due to begin today and end on the Thursday according to an invitation by India’s Minister of External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj.

Yemen and India have a good relationship with regular trade and a steady flow of international students travelling to India.

The main topic of concern is likely to be domestic terrorism posed by Al-Qaeda, Daesh and the Iranian-backed Houthi group.

Yemen has been devastated by a war between forces loyal to President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, who is backed by a Saudi-led coalition, and those allied to the Houthi rebel group and former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, backed by Iran.
