Egypt, US military officials discuss developments in Libya

The Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Mahmoud Hegazy, yesterday met with US Marine Corps General and Commander of the US African Command, Thomas Waldhauser, and US Ambassador to Libya, Peter Bodde, to discuss the developments in Libya and efforts to achieve reconciliation.

The Egyptian army said in a statement that the officials exchanged views on developments in the war torn country as well as regional and international efforts to achieve national reconciliation in Libya and promote comprehensive reconciliation among the parties there.

Hegazy stressed on his country’s keenness to support the political process in Libya and efforts to restore stability.

Meanwhile, Waldhauser praised Egypt’s pivotal role in maintaining stability in Libya.

Libya has been in a state of political division and security chaos since the ouster of former dictator Colonel Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
