Israel arrested 388 Palestinians in June

Israeli authorities arrested 388 Palestinians from different parts of occupied Palestine during June, including 70 children and six women, a report issued by a number of Palestinian organisations revealed yesterday.

According to the monthly report – a joint effort between the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club, Al-Mezan Centre for Human Rights, Addameer and the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs – Israeli authorities arrested 126 Palestinians from Jerusalem, 70 from Hebron, 38 from Nablus, 32 from Ramallah and Al-Beereh, 30 from Jenin, 30 from Tulkarm, 27 from Bethlehem, 14 from Qalqilia, seven from Jericho, seven from Tubas, six from Salfit and one from Gaza.

The report said that these arrests brought the total number of Palestinian prisoners inside Israeli jails to 6,300, including 47 women, ten girls, 300 children, 486 under administrative detention and 11 MPs.

In addition, the report said that Israeli authorities issued 61 administrative detention orders during June, including 19 new orders and 42 that had been renewed two or three times.

The report also pointed out the inhumane treatment of Palestinian prisoners inside Israeli jails including torture.

In a special chapter the report drew attention to Palestinian lawyer Mohamed Allan, who was on hunger strike jail until yesterday. He suspended his hunger strike after reaching an agreement that his administrative detention would not be renewed.

The report condemned “flagrant” and “organised” Israeli violations against Palestinian prisoners, noting these are violations of international law.

It also called on the international community to urgently interfere and fulfil its legal and ethical obligations towards the residents of occupied Palestine and obliges the Israeli occupation to stop committing violations.
