Head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh said yesterday that his movement is ready to end the internal Palestinian division and achieve national unity, Quds Press reported.

“Hamas is working 24 hours with all sides and is ready to go beyond all borders in order to end internal divisions and achieve national unity,” Haniyeh said.

During a speech he delivered at a graduation ceremony in Palestine University in Gaza, he said: “The Palestinian issue is currently passing through a difficult stage; therefore, everyone has to exert efforts to end the division and achieve partnership.”

He stressed that the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank have to “stand together and be united” due to the difficulties facing them.

The internal Palestinian division – between Hamas and Fatah – started in 2007, when Hamas, which won an overwhelming majority in the general elections in 2006, took control of the Gaza Strip from its rival, which refused to accept the election results.
