5 security officials killed in Egypt

Five police officers were killed today in an armed attack targeting a security barrier near Saqarah in Giza, west of Cairo, according to a security source.

In a press release, a security source said: “Unknown individuals on a motorcycle attacked a security checkpoint in Saqarah this morning and fired a barrage of bullets killing three soldiers and two police officers.”

The source added that a security cordon was imposed and a widespread combing of the area is being carried out to find the perpetrators.

The Egyptian police did not issue a statement regarding the attack, and no party claimed responsibility as yet.
