As Jerusalem witnesses unrest due to the increased Israeli security cordons at the site of the Muslim holy site of Al-Aqsa Mosque, Hamas today launched a new media campaign to highlight the Palestinians’ right to resist the Israeli actions and do what they can to halt them.

The “resistance is not terrorism” initiative is based on Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations which provides for the right of an occupied people to stand up and fight back against the atrocities committed by the occupier.

At the launch, a senior official in Hamas said:

The Israeli occupation would not be relentless with its crimes against the land and people and violate international laws and UN resolutions if it weren’t for the silence of the international community, which was unable to force it to abide by the rules of international law.

He called on the UN to shoulder its responsibilities towards the Palestinian people and their struggle to get rid of the occupation and recognise all Palestinian national liberation movements, including Hamas, and support them in all political, legal and material forms.
