The Syrian opposition accused regime forces and their Iranian militia allies on Tuesday of breaking a truce approved by Russia. Eight civilians were killed in the incident in Eastern Ghouta near Damascus.

According to the head of the Syrian National Coalition’s media office, the truce was broken because the regime and Iranians disagreed with Russia about it. “The southern front or the Daraa forces in the south stressed for the inclusion of Ghouta in the agreement, and the Russians accepted their request,” Ahmad Ramadan told Gulf Online. “However, the Iranians rejected the request so they are continuing to shell this area, which undermines the agreement.”

The ceasefire was agreed last Saturday, having been mediated by Egypt. The Syrian regime announced “the cessation of hostilities in a number of areas in eastern Ghouta” without naming the areas not covered by the agreement.

Eight civilians were killed and 30 others were wounded in an air raid in Ghouta. It is not clear whether Syrian or Russian aircraft took part in the attack.
