Israeli MK Yair Lapid has said that the Jordanian doctor who was killed by an Israeli embassy security guard in Amman did not harm anyone, Shehab News Agency reported yesterday.

According to Israeli media Lapid, the head of Yesh Atid party and former finance minister, said: “It would be appropriate if Israel expressed sadness over the death of the Jordanian doctor who did not harm anyone and was killed by a stray bullet”.

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz said that the guard killed the Jordanians as he felt superior towards Palestinians, a feeling which dominates the Israeli security institution.

Writing for Haaretz the Israeli journalist Amira Hass said: “Even if the minor Mohamed Al-Jawawdeh attacked the security chief [in the embassy], he should not have killed him.”

She also said that the guard was encouraged to kill the Jordanians because the Israelis are used to targeting Palestinians even when they do not pose any danger to them or when they protest for the sake of their national rights.

In a separate issue Lapid said that the occupation of a Palestinian house by settlers in the West Bank city of Hebron added a greater burden on the Israeli army. He called for the Israeli settlers to evacuate the Palestinian house without hesitation.
