UAE blocks economic website for publishing ‘false’ news

July 27, 2017 at 4:21 pm

The UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) today banned Arabian Business, a site dedicated on covering economic news, after it published “false” news about real estate projects in Dubai.

The TRA said the ban would last one month, based on legislation and laws governing the conduct of media activities in the country.

Last week the magazine published on its website reports that construction projects in Dubai had been halted because they had gone bankrupt. Officials in the Emirate denied the report.

In a tweet, the Information Office said the magazine “deleted the false news from its website and all its electronic platforms. It was revealed that they had relied on sources which were inaccurate for this report.”

“The construction sector is operating according to natural supply and demand needs,” the Dubai Land Department said.

During the global financial crisis, some real estate projects were suspended and resumed as of 2012, she said.
