Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) signed memorandum of understanding with the Italian government to donate €5.6 million ($6.58 million) to rebuild areas destroyed by last year’s earthquake, QNA reported.
Director General of the QFFD Khalifa Bin Jassim Al-Kuwari and the Government’s Special Commissioner for Reconstruction Vasco Errani signed the memorandum at the headquarters of ministerial council in Rome.

Al-Kuwari said this support was ordered by the Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad, noting that Doha was among the first countries to provide support for the Italian government after the earthquake.
QFFD’s fund will focus on the education sector and the building of schools, according to Al-Kuwari, noting this is Qatar’s priority in providing foreign aid.
