Daesh claims responsibility for Egypt car attack

August 11, 2017 at 3:42 pm

Daesh has claimed responsibility for an attack on an Egyptian patrol car this week that killed four policemen in North Sinai, the group’s Amaq news agency reported yesterday.

Authorities were patrolling the capital of the North Sinai province when their vehicle came under attack, state newspaper Al-Ahram reported on Wednesday.

Since the military coup of 2013 lead by current President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, Egypt has witnessed an increase in attacks against security personnel.

The violence has been concentrated mainly in the Sinai Peninsula where authorities have been battling a militant insurgency lead by a Daesh affiliate group who have carried out attacks on Coptic Christians as well.
