Gaza marks Palestinian victory

Palestinians in Gaza held mark the success of Palestinian resistance against the Israeli occupation forces over the Al-Aqsa Mosque last month.

Palestinians in Gaza today held a race to mark the victory over occupation forces at Al-Aqsa Mosque last month.

The Boycott Campaign – Palestine, in cooperation with the Artists' Association and the Palestine Athletics Federation organised the event which started at a barrier which had been setup to resembled the Israeli obstructions which had been placed at the door of Al-Aqsa Mosque last month and which led to widespread protests in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Members of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) attended the race which saw scores of men take part.

On 16 July Israeli occupation forces set up metal detectors, high tech surveillance systems and increased the military presence at Al-Aqsa Mosque. Refusing the change to the status quo, Muslim worshippers help sit-ins at the doors of the mosque and did not pass through the new measures. Seven Palestinians were killed due to Israel's excessive use of force in breaking up protests, but weeks later the new measures were removed and the status quo maintained.
