Mohammed El-Senussi, the grandson of King Idris El-Senussi, Libya’s first king, has offered to lead the country during this transitional period.

Speaking to reporters in Tunis, El-Senussi called for the re-enactment of the 1951 constitution – implemented after Libya’s independence from Italy – and presented himself as a potential figure to lead the country’s transitional period.

“The safest and most effective way for a speedy and satisfactory solution for everyone in Libya is to refer to the 1951 Constitution, because it is the only constitution that represents the constitutional and legal legitimacy of the country,” he said.
