The Israeli occupation authorities have issued demolition notices to the Palestinian owners of 11 homes in the village of Jeet on the outskirts of the West Bank city of Qalqilia, Quds Press reported on Friday. Local sources said that the Israelis have set 27 September for the house owners to appeal against the demolition notices before the courts.
A member of the Jeet Village Council, Omar Yamin, said that the local residents and legal specialists are cooperating with the councillors to stop the demolitions from going ahead. The homes scheduled to be destroyed are in so-called Area C, which is under the full administrative and security control of the Israeli occupation, according to the Oslo Peace Accords signed by the PLO and Israel in 1993.
Yamin pointed out that the village is densely populated and the houses to be demolished by the Israelis are located on the outskirts of the village near the illegal Jewish settlements of Kidumim and Gilad. Pressure has been applied on the authorities by the settlers to demolish the Palestinian homes so that the settlements can be expanded, he added.
