The General Command of the UAE Armed Forces announced yesterday that one of its pilots was killed when his airplane crashed in Yemen.

Government news agency WAM reported that Second Lieutenant Pilot Sultan Mohamed Ali Al-Naqbi was killed after his plane sustained a technical failure while carrying out a reconnaissance mission over the Red Sea.

Earlier in the day, the UAE announced the death of Sergeant Nasser Gharib Al-Mazroui because of wounds he sustained from a previous injury while participating in “Operation Restore Hope” in Yemen.

The UAE is the second largest country in terms of air force participation in a coalition of Arab states led by Saudi Arabia which is fighting in Yemen.

Yemen has been devastated by a war between forces loyal to President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, who is backed by the Saudi-led coalition, and those allied to the Houthi rebel group and former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, backed by Iran.
