Hamas firmly denied news that has circulated in the media regarding Egypt approving a permanent office for the movement in Cairo, represented by Hamas leader Rouhi Mushtaha.

A prominent Hamas official gave an exclusive statement to Khaleej Online today saying the discussions between the Hamas delegation, led by Head of the Hamas Political Bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, and head of the Egyptian intelligence “addressed a number of important issues regarding the crises in the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian reconciliation, and improving bilateral relations. However, the issue of opening a Hamas office in Cairo was not on the agenda.”

The official noted that news that an office would be opened in Egypt was spread by parties who aim to disturb and sabotage meetings taking place in Cairo at a time when a Hamas delegation was in the city.

The official denied any meetings had taken place between members of the movement and dismissed Fatah leader, Mohammed Dahlan, in Cairo. A few days ago, meetings were held with his representatives, including Samir Al-Mashharawi, to discuss issues regarding the crises in the Gaza Strip and trying to implement the understandings reached a few weeks ago.
