Islamic Jihad condemned a number of its members being summoned to a PA court in Ramallah after the public prosecution falsely accused them of involvement in “the executive authority and armed militias of a banned group”.

In a press release issued yesterday, the movement stressed its rejection of such measures that use the courts and laws to mislead the public and please the occupation. The movement considers the authority’s attempt to make false accusations an obvious sham.

It also believes that the political trials “reinforce the policies of oppression and the adoption of a security mentality that does not accept partnership and reconciliation.” According to the movement, “this is one of the reasons behind the objectionable division and its bitter fruit.”

“Those taking such measures want to abort the reconciliation efforts and the attempts to unite the ranks by fuelling the division with such measures, as well as strong-arming the citizens. We should be seeing these muscles flexed in a confrontation against the occupation and settlers who have assassinated our people and figures and who attack others at checkpoints and during raids of various cities and villages,” the movement said in its press release.
