Yemeni Undersecretary survives assassination attempt in Aden

Yemen’s Interior Ministry’s Undersecretary Major General Mohammed Musaed Al-Amir has survived an assassination attempt in the southern province of Aden.

“The Interior Ministry’s Undersecretary for Police Services, Major General Mohammed Al-Amir has miraculously escaped an assassination attempt,” the ministry said in a statement published on its official website and quoting an unnamed source.

According to the statement the assassination attempt targeted the General “while driving on Route 50 in the area of ​​Bir Fadl, north-west of Aden”.

The source said an armed group has intercepted the general and fired a barrage of bullets at him, causing material damage to his car. The general was unharmed.

According to the source, an exchange of fire took place between the gunmen and the general’s guards which led to two attackers being arrested who were taken to prison for interrogation.

The rest of the gunmen escaped. The source said the attackers had not been identified.
