Turkish military delegation to visit Iran

A high-level Turkish military delegation headed by Chief of the General Staff, General Hulusi Akar, will visit Tehran next week, the Iranian armed forces announced today.

The visit comes in response to the recent trip made by Chairman of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Baqeri to Ankara.

The Turkish delegation is expected to follow up on the agreements which were signed during the Ankara visit.

Heading a high-level Iranian military delegation, Baqeri visited Ankara where he held meetings with a number of senior Turkish officials, including President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The visit was the first to Turkey by an Iranian military chief since the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran.

During the visit, Barqeri signed agreements with the Turkish officials to hold joint training courses and increase counter-terrorism intelligence sharing between the two countries.
